Love Me, Love My Belly no. 6
Love Me, Love My Belly is a half-size zine composed of art, creative nonfiction, & poetry—an annual print zine dedicated to the acceptance of self and imperfection as beauty. COVER ARTIST
ARTIST STATEMENT: The Popular series is about unapologetic, electrifying, fat bodies reclaiming the overly stylized, overly exclusive, overly idolized narrative of the fashion magazine cover. The mixed media portraits are intentionally left unfinished to illustrate the labor it takes to construct a world that happily represents and celebrates fat bodies. Distorted and layered poses communicate the tension fat bodies feel as we fight to be accurately and authentically included in mass media while also rebelling against the systems of conformity that uphold beauty ideals. The series is an ardent rejection of the status quo and demands fat visibility on our own terms. Popular No. 7 features fat style influencer @kimmystyled.
